About
Our property is a Meeting House built in 1834 and is set in a rural setting equidistant from Kircubbin, Ballyhalbert and Ballywalter on the Ards Peninsula. The building has remained largely untouched. The main body of the Church interior retains its original character and flavour with its curved box pew interior intact. To this day the Church has no mains electricity or running water.
Architecturally the Church displays text book characteristics of the Georgian period with a classically derived pedimented gable and detailing in the "Gothic" style including gothic arched entrance door and Y shaped arched windows.
The curtilage of the listed church includes a churchyard with boundaries formed of a mixture of rubbletstone walls and hedging, wrought iron entrance gates and a disused stone built stable building.
The setting of the church is of historic and scenic value which is further enhanced by agricultural land on all sides. An important aspect of the heritage value is the authenticity of the church's fabric and character.
The remains of a precentors house have recently been uncovered and been partially rebuilt with information panels exclusively in Ulster-Scots, the language of the people who built the Meeting House.
