Discovery Hub: Overwintering wildfowl on Strangford Lough

Ards Visitor Information Centre, 31 Regent Street, Newtownards, County Down, BT23 4AD
Brent Goose

About

Enjoy this display on the wonderful overwintering wildlife of Strangford Lough by North Down Birdwatching Club.

Amongst the birds which make Strangford Lough their winter home is the Pale Bellied Brent Goose, migrating almost 3000 miles to feed on the eelgrass. Find out about these and other winter visitors.

The sights and sounds of the Pale Bellied Brent Geese as the tide is just on the turn, allowing them to feed, is something one will never tire of.

The wonderful Curlew call to each other, reminding people of the time when Curlew were heard all over the countryside.

Whooper Swans, Shelduck, Pintail, Redshank are a few more of the wonderful wildlife you can experience around our shores.

Remember the more you look, the more you see.
