1. Scrabo Tower, Newtownards
As one of Northern Ireland’s most well-known landmarks, the majestic Scrabo Tower can be seen from afar and is a local icon. The 19th century lookout tower is 135 feet (41m) tall and stands on Scrabo Hill, where you can enjoy vast views across Strangford Lough.
2. Ballycopeland Windmill, Millisle
Ballycopeland Windmill is the only remaining windmill in Northern Ireland with the original Reef mechanism still existing. It was built in the late 18th or early 19th century and was worked until the First World War when it fell into disrepair. The windmill recently reopened following regeneration work, with investment to construct a visitor centre with coffee shop and refurbishment of the existing miller’s cottage and kilnman’s house.
3. Eisenhower Pier and Bangor Marina
North of Bangor Marina by Bangor Lifeboat Station, the pier has a number of mosaics representing the history of the town and one which depicts the borough's crucial role in Second World War. From here you can dander round to the seafront promenade which hugs the marina and forms part of the North Down Coastal Path. Stroll past Pickie Funpark and enjoy the lovely seaside vibes and capture beautiful coastal shots along the coast all the way to Holywood.
4. Grey Abbey Ruins
A great photo opportunity, the Cistercian abbey was founded in 1193 by Affreca, wife of John de Courcy, the Anglo-Norman invader of East Ulster. Grey Abbey is located in a picturesque village with beautiful antique and coffee shops, you're sure to be won over by its charm.
5. North Down Coastal Path
The photo opportunities are endless along one of the finest shoreline walks in Ireland. Take in the beautiful surroundings and contrasting shoreline, from rocky outlets to salt marshes and mudflats to sandy beaches.
6. Mount Stewart, Ards Peninsula
Wow, you will be spoilt for choice at magical Mount Stewart - find out why Mount Stewart has been voted as one of the Top Ten Gardens in the world. Capture the beautifully landscaped and informal grounds that surround the picturesque lake walk, recently extended walking trails, and impressive neoclassical family home. (Pre-booking is essential)
7. Nendrum Monastic Site, Comber
Thought to be the best example of a pre-Norman monastic site in Northern Ireland, you’ll want to add this scenic location to your camera roll. The monastic site consists of three round dry stone walled enclosures, one within the other, situated on the shores of Strangford Lough. Another great opportunity to capture fantastic images.
8. Sketrick Castle, Killinchy
Sketrick Castle, reached by a causeway on the west coast of Strangford Lough, take your pics at the ruins of the castle located on Sketrick Island. This large tower house was built in the mid-15th century and has a rich history to be discovered.
9. Ulster Folk Museum, Cultra
Promising fantastic shots as you stroll around the grounds of the Ulster Folk Museum. Encounter costumed locals demonstrating traditional crafts in cottages, farm dwellings, schools, and shops as you enjoy a visit to this living history museum. Set in the rolling hills of Cultra and featuring a bustling town, filled with authentic period buildings, rich in traditions from over 100 years ago. (Pre-booking is essential)
10. Donaghadee Harbour and Lighthouse
This well-photographed famous Northern Ireland landmark welcomes you to take your creative capture! Donaghadee’s iconic lighthouse stands guard on the harbour keeping ships right in times of trouble with its beam and foghorn. The Donaghadee Lighthouse has the distinction of being the first Irish lighthouse to be converted to electricity. On a clear day, get that perfect shot of an uninterrupted view across to Scotland.
