18th October 2022
Donaghadee and Comber have again been recognised among Northern Ireland’s top horticultural talent at this year’s Translink Ulster in Bloom competition with both towns securing prestigious awards.
Northern Ireland’s 11 council areas were represented and more than 100 entries were received. For the second year in a row, Donaghadee secured victory in the Town category while Comber claimed second position, building on their third-placed finishes in 2019 and 2021.
The Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Karen Douglas, said:
“I am delighted to see Donaghadee emerging victorious in the Town category once again with Comber continuing to shine in second position. Congratulations must go to the host of enthusiastic volunteers as well as the Council’s Parks staff who have all played their part in securing these successes for our Borough.”
The annual horticultural showcase is coordinated by the Northern Ireland Local Government Association and encourages cities, towns and villages right across Northern Ireland to look their best, boosting civic pride through beautiful plant and floral displays. Areas are judged from July until early August during the key summer period.
