Part of the Great Wars Trail
As the conflict in Europe raged the detention and extermination of the Jewish people led to those that were able fleeing the war zones to safety.
This area played its part in providing safe haven for those escaping the conflict with both adults and children repatriating in Millisle many at Ballyrolly House and farm. Between 1939 and 1948 around 300 Jewish children made Millisle their home.
Many of the children attended Millisle Primary school which today includes the "Safe Haven" Holocaust Memorial Garden which is at the entrance to the school.
