There’s Whiskey In The Jar at Portico!
1st March 2022
Whether you prefer to celebrate the arrival of Spring with Seven Drunken Nights or The Rite of Spring, Portico in Portaferry has something for all tastes this season.
In March, the multi-award winning Sitkovetsky Trio will perform Beethoven’s Trio No. 2 in G major, Perkin’s Freakshow and Schumann’s Trio no 3 in G minor. Violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky, pianist Wu Qian and cellist Isang Enders have toured extensively to enormous critical acclaim.
If Whiskey In The Jar is more to your liking then join The Shamrock Tenors on Sat 19 March, just after St Patrick’s Day, for foot-stomping renditions of popular Irish folk songs sung by four fabulous tenor voices.
Taking part in Strangford Lough’s Viking Festival, the concert on Sat 26 March features three bands with their interpretation of ‘Viking Music’: Ravensdale, Seidrblot and Sacred Knot. The concert will begin after a torchlit parade and declaration of war by the followers of King Magnus Barelegs at the steps of Portico!
On Mother’s day, Sunday 27 March, if you are looking to treat somebody, look no further as Portico has a special afternoon concert taking place with perennial favourites Foster & Allen. Mick & Tony will perform all their hits like Bunch Of Thyme, Old Flames, Maggie, After All These Years, We Owe It All to You and Mrs. Brown’s Boys plus some new recordings.
There’s even more variety in April with popular artists Clubsound, Flash Harry and Essentially Cher as well as classical treats from the Chamber Philharmonic Europe, piano duets from Amandine Savary and Coraline Cuenot - including The Rite of Spring, and Thibaut Garcia and Felicien Brut combine classical guitar with accordion to produce a lively programme of waltzes, tangos and fandangos!
Portico is supported by Ards and North Down Borough Council and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. To book or find out more please visit porticoards.com
